What are the best programs to learn for web design? I already know:
dream weaver, javascript, HTML, fireworks, some flash. Was trying to learn MySQL, any thoughts??? I'm very serious about getting into web design as a career.
I wanna get into web design. What are the best programs to learn?
One's that are open source. The online community of users of open source programs are usually very helpful and typically more so than any commercial program.
MySQL and PHP are used quite a bit for dynamic content. This combination is behind many database driven sites. I know a few people that use perl extensively for web site design and for programming mass editing scripts.
Gimp is one the most popular graphics editing programs.
There are several open source web design related program links at:

Reply:i would suggest you get into a IT school they don't cost the earth they teach web design and they get you a job once you have finished courses take months and they have a 98% success rate and remember the average salary for a web designer is £38 a year.
they are called serco
Reply:Master Flash...as well as anything available/made my macromedia.
Reply:First you need to decide whether you want to be a designer or a developer. The designer is more image/flash/UI/art creation centric. The developer is more application centric (server-side programming, databases, ie real bread %26amp; butter 3-tier programming).
HTML is an absolute must either way. So that's the place to start.
Reply:You think you know html,etc... but there's always more to learn!
do you know the techniques of 'unobtrusive' javascript? dom manipulation, and ajax?
javascript is a great tool, but simple stuff won't get you a job!
flash is cute, but only a job requirement for small shops. it's a very specialized tool.
the big boys run content management systems, with xml , css, and server languages (perl,php,java,ruby...)
mysql will make more sense after you learn a good server side language!
