I have seen dreamweaver mentioned a lot, is this the one to go with?
I do not want software that will make a website look like it is hosted on a free server.
Thanks!
What is the best web design program that professional webddesigners use?
In most web design "circles" that I've experienced, if you mention that you're using Front Page, you could expect to see a lot of nostrils as people look down their nose at you. Seriously, Dreamweaver is still the rampant head of the pack... UNLESS we're talking about programming and designing web applications, then we're talking about (in order of personal preference)...
ActiveState Komodo
NetBeans
Eclipse
Zend Studio
The middle two are both open-source products. NetBeans is primarily Java, but Eclipse has plug-ins for just about everything but the kitchen sink.
Komodo and Zend Studio both have downloadable trial versions. The advantage of these is live debugging of applications. ZD is primarily for the PHP platform. Komodo works well with any number of languages. I've primarily used it for Python, PHP, XML and Ruby.
Finally another plus in favor of Dreamweaver is that when you want to start designing graphics (Fireworks) and Flash, the suite is designed to integrate seamlessly.
Reply:Most of the ones down here use FrontPage. I used to hear Dreamweaver a lot, but not in the last couple years.
