Best languages to learn to get into web design?

Obviously, HTML is the basis of pretty much all programming, not just web design, but after HTML, what is the best to learn after that to further focus on web design?

Thanks

Best languages to learn to get into web design?
Depends on how advanced you want to get, theres all sort of things based on the design of the site. For dtabases, theres PHP and SQL, also for interactive sites, you have DHTML, XHTML, JAVA, and ASP.net to name a few. Those are probably the most common you will see, but try to focus on one at a time, and you can also get certifications to help yourself in the careerer field.
Reply:PHP .. but java is pretty popular now
Reply:PHP/MySQL

Java

ASP if you want to go that way but pretty much everything can be done in PHP
Reply:It really depends on what you want to do with your web page.

There are numerous programming languages available, and each one has a different purpose, like a took box with many different tools.

"If all you have in your tool box is a hammer, then after awhile, everything looks like a nail."

Cold Fusion is good for presenting data from a database.

Java has it's value and purpose.

You could use Visual Web Developer using the .NET framework.

Etc.

Like I said, it really depends on just exactly what you want to use the web for. Just displaying information requires nothing more than HTML and CSS.

Requesting information and storing that information or doing something with that information requires something else.

Having the web page respond to button clicks and do things requires yet a different programming language.

Good luck and have fun, but remember, the very hardest part of any web design is the actual design - before you ever sit in front of your computer, you need to have a good graphical representation on paper, because once you start focusing on the code, it's very hard to keep track of the final page design.
Reply:Well the order I learned web design languages was HTML %26gt; CSS %26gt; JavaScript %26gt; PHP %26gt; MySql. I leaned all of these for free threw this website. http://w3schools.com/

The thing about web design is you cant let yourself get discouraged, every time you create a web site your going to run into problems because your trying to get lots of different types of code to work together on lots of different types of browsers and still make it simple enough for people to use.

You may also consider learning some photo shop its quite helpfull for more advanced web design.
Reply:actually I'm a newbie in programming languages so I can't answer which is the best. But I thank everyone for sharing their knowledge. It seems that I'm learning from you guys. ^^
Reply:I advise not using Java as it still has to be compiled even as a web language.

PHP would be your best bet, man. I have been a PHP programmer for about 3 years and I love writing scripts in it.

http://www.phpbuilder.com is an amazing website to start with if you are interested.
Reply:Another good one is JAVA and C++. Java is used ALOT in todays internet and some C++ trainning will be good for you, C++ is used somewhat but it will help you to be more rounded when it comes to design so it will deffinitly benifit you.
