What does an average web design consultant make an hour?

If a web designer were to charge by the hour, on average, what would be a fair price to pay in the United States? If you are web designer, may I ask what you charge?

What does an average web design consultant make an hour?
Depends on your skill level, portfolio and client.. Example in USD.

Professional designers at large ad agencies charge $100+/hour , but you need a deep professional portfolio.

More typically rates range form $25.hour ~$50/hr for graphics design and HTML /CSS pages.

Flash animation, is generally priced at $60/r ~ $200/hr again depends on skill level and animation complexity.

Programming pages like PHP, ASP etc. generally are more expensive at $50/hr ~ $100/hr again depends on experience level.

Generally for projects its best to use hourly rates as a guide in determining fixed-bid estimates, most small customers , want a fixed price, not an open-ended hourly rate.

Be Professional offer an estimate, create a written contract, take money up-front to start the work (typically 40% or more), offer refund clause if client is unhappy, refund x% of money given. If someone is considering help, they may not always be looking for the cheapest person.
Reply:Depends.

If it's a corporate client, and I am doing the entire design, and HTML then usally about $40 per hour.

Server side programming like Perl, PHP or JAVA usually $70 per hour.

however - I rarely offer per hour rates. I meet face to face, or virtually with the client, discuss their project and provide a set base price and delivery date. I also provide free mock ups of designs before they've paid anything. Jobs over 2000 dollars requires a 50% down payment.
Reply:100,000 dollars a yr and about 55 dollars an hour
Reply:depends for what he's working on. flash, html, css, php, etc...

usually 50$/hour is a decent price of a cheap designer.
