Is a web design career a good one?

where does web design take you in life? what are all the requirements im going to need to succeed in this career field?

Is a web design career a good one?
Yes, the porn industry thrives off the internet. But serisouly, th better the lay out, the more chance I am actually going to look at it.
Reply:I am currently a .Net programmer. While web design is one aspect of the job the main part of the job is trying to design a functioning application that will make the lives of the people using it really easy. You have to go to school. I suggest a degree in Management Information Systems.

If you really just want to be a web designer then you will most likely be working in a marketing department of a company rather than an IT department.
Reply:Evidently there is a demand for it, because our local community college started offering an AD web page design curriculum a couple of years ago, and they try to design their curricula around the needs of the community. The local four year college has a BFA curriculum in graphic design. I think you should check with a school in your area. If you're in high school, talk to your guidance counselor. Also, do some research on the web. If you're artistic, this is a way of putting your talents to good use and of building a career that you'll love. Good luck.
Reply:You first off need a good education as well as creativity. if you do not have that your pretty much screwed, sorry. I start the first few courses in web design and development in august. I already know alot from previous experiences but I know there will be so much to learn. Try to get yourself farmiliar with little things before you plan to go to college, like flash, html, java etc. I created my first sucessful (advertised on tv, magazines, etc) when I was 14. That really got me into it, and found that it can really be alot of fun. You'll need a bachelors degree to really make alot of money right out of university (probably about 50-60k to start) but can make well into six figures with years of experience and if your really good.

There may also be an assc. program at your local community college that can also help to get your started. Good luck!
