Which software should I buy if I want to teach myself web design?

I learned FrontPage back in the 90's. Is there a new version of that or something better/more popular now?

Which software should I buy if I want to teach myself web design?
I suggest going to http://www.about.com and doing a search for "tutorial HTML web design" and see what pops up. They have excellent beginner and intermediate tutorials on bunches of stuff. Frontpage is OK, for a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) type of editing, but teaches you NOTHING about programming for web pages, just design of the layout. If you are serious about doing actual programming in addition to simple layout design, then you need a decent HTML editor. The bare minimum you need is nothing more the the Noptepad simple text editor which comes with Windoze. But to use Notepad effectively, you need to know HTML backwards and forwards. You can get a free HTML editor from http://www.evrsoft.com called "1st Page." All you need is the free version. It does come in an edition for purchase. 1st Page allows you to use the WYSIWYG mode or edit the HTML directly. 1st Page includes a huge amount of help and reference material, and the price is right, free. This is going to take work on your part. This stuff, working with HTML in addition to the layout design, is not exactly easy, but you can take heart in that a lot of people do it every day.
Reply:i am not sure, but i learned mostly from frontpage 2003 and copying other's codes
Reply:all the above are very expensive to buy,,

do a web search for :-

free+web design+software+tutorials+windows

if you was running a Linux operating system you would get what you need for free... windows software you have to pay through the nose for
Reply:Front Page only works on web sites that support FP extensions.

Try NVU - it's a free version of Dreamweaver (although you can write web sites in Notepad).

Learn html, css, javascript, php and SQL for starters.
Reply:FrontPage 2003 is still widely used.
Reply:Hold on to your wallet.

Adobe Studio is the full answer to your question, but for just the web design part, Adobe Dreamweaver is kind of the new standard.
Reply:macromedia dreamweaver mx 2004
Reply:Adobe Photoshop CS3 (or lower) for nice web designs.

Then use Microsoft FrontPage.

At least, that's what my friend (web designer) said he uses.

Many programs allow you to create websites. I find PS and FP a very good combination, and simple.
Reply:Nvu - nvu.org is a free alternative

Dreamweaver

Adobe go live

Frontpage is going away, so I wouldn't spend time on that. The new Microsoft thing is Expression Web.

Reply:I suggest Adobe Dreamweaver
Reply:Is HTML still a good thing to know?
